        <p>Nancy Cummings was caught in the act of improving our community&#8217;s quality of life through her work with the Washoe County Library System and for spearheading the Truckee Meadows Literate Community Project.&nbsp; Nancy recently retired from Washoe County after years of serving the community and improving literacy in the Truckee Meadows.
</p>
<p>
Through her work, Nancy has significantly impacted the <a href="http://www.truckeemeadowstomorrow.org/indicator_category/C6">Literate Community Quality of Life Indicator</a>, moving it in in a positive direction and improving the overall health of our community.&nbsp;

        <p>Karen Ross was caught in the act of improving our community&#8217;s quality of life through her work on Sierra Pacific&#8217;s Energy Assistance Expo 2008. This event provided low-income residents with an opportunity to learn about all the ways Sierra Pacific Power and local nonprofit agencies can help them deal with their energy bills, save money, and learn to use energy more efficiently.&nbsp; It brought many health and human services providers to one location to be a &#8220;one-stop shop&#8221; for people needing services.
</p>
<p>
Through the Energy Assistance Expo 2008, Karen Ross and Sierra Pacific Power positively impacted the <a href="http://www.truckeemeadowstomorrow.org/indicator_category/C7"> Individual and Family Wellbeing Quality of Life Indicator</a>  and the <a href="http://www.truckeemeadowstomorrow.org/indicator_category/C3">Transformative Community Initiatives Quality of Life Indicator</a>.
</p>

The University of Nevada, Reno College of Education presents the Dana Davis Forum in Education 2008. Featured speaker- Dr. Linda Harklau, University of Georgia.
</p>
<p>
An increasing number of U.S. high school graduates enter college while still in the process of learning English. They are referred to as Generation 1.5 students because they share characteristics of both first and second generation immigrants. Dr. Harklau will present her study of Generation 1.5 addressing the major issues for these students in regard to high school preparation for college, college access and enrollment and the status of minority languages and bilingualism on college campuses.
