Tucked into Downtown Reno, just blocks outside historic Virginia Ave., a new $50 million ballpark is being constructed, and the facility is on-track for the April 17 home opener of the Reno Aces, Triple-A Affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Since groundbreaking on the park took place in February 2008, the state-of-the-art venue has been built at an unprecedented pace. Last month, installation began on 6,500 fixed seats, the video board and scoreboard were erected and suites were sectioned off and painted. A brick façade now encapsulates the entire park, and glass has been installed throughout the exterior of the structure.

This month, the ballpark’s lights will be raised and the grass sod will be placed. The Aces Ballpark playing surface will be comprised of a mix of Perennial Ryegrass and Kentucky Bluegrass. The sod is currently being grown in Stockton, Calif.

Aces Ballpark is just the first phase in a multi-tiered project. The ballpark will serve as an anchor for an entire Freight House District that will include retail, dining and nightlife venues.
