Reno, Nevada. April 28, 2005. Truckee Meadows Tomorrow (TMT), a local, non-profit organization dedicated to continually improving our quality of life in the region, will release its 2005 Report on Community Well-Being tomorrow.
The 43-page report will be posted on TMT's website, www.quality-of-life.org and can be downloaded in .pdf format. A four- page insert in Friday's Reno Gazette Journal will highlight some of the 30 identified measurements—known as quality-of-life indicators—and refer readers to the website for more complete information.
"We're excited to present this information to the community," TMT President Kathy Carter states. "By tracking key indicators over a period of time, our community is able to measure its progress—or decline—in areas that our community has identified as key to our quality of life."
Titled "Quality of Life: The Key to Our Future," the report includes both original and secondary research complied since the last comprehensive report was compiled in 2003. The report is updated every two years. The report includes both data tables and analysis for the 30 indicators broken down into six categories: Economic Vitality and Culture; Education and Life-Long Learning; Health and Wellness; Land Use and Infrastructure; Natural Environment; and Safety and Welfare.
TMT worked with the community in 1993 to select the original 66 quality of life indicators which were a result of work on the Truckee Meadows Regional Plan. In 1998, that list was narrowed down to the top 30 indicators. Through a Blue Ribbon Community Task Force effort, TMT has begun the process to update these indicators again to ensure they truly reflect our community's quality of life values that are key to our future.
