Truckee Meadows Tomorrow (TMT) recently unveiled new Quality of Life Indicators, the result of an intensive, 18-month process by the Quality of Life Task Force.  In addition, TMT launched a reinvented, interactive Web site at the start of a progressive 2007 for the organization, its members and the community.

“The Quality of Life Task Force invested 18 months to discuss and record the perspectives of individuals in our community,” TMT Board President, Zanny Marsh, said. “The results are the community’s Quality of Life Indicators, for which TMT is both the advocate and the steward.”

Quality of Life Indicators are data measures that highlight the area’s conditions, trends, opportunities for improvement, public policy and program impacts, and progress toward desired results. TMT’s Quality of Life Task Force Steering Committee, a committee of nine Board and community volunteers, collected extensive information through various mediums, including the United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra environmental scan, TMT members, TMT’s CEO forum sponsored by Renown Health/Washoe Medical Center, community forums hosted by Wells Fargo, community surveys and EDAWN’s Target 2010 strategic planning process.

The several hundred Quality of Life Indicators suggested by the community were then filtered against the following criteria for good indicators: meaningful, relevant, actionable, room for improvement and measurable.

The community was then asked to participate in a month-long e-survey on TMT’s Web site and at TMT’s June general membership meeting.  E-survey respondents chose their top ten from a list of 53 possible indicators by checking the indicators that matter the most to their quality of life – both living and working in the Truckee Meadows.  The e-survey link was widely distributed throughout the community and received more than 2,000 responses. After reviewing all the responses and comments from the survey, the 33 indicators (attached) were unveiled.

TMT’s newly reinvented Web site, http://www.quality-of-life.org, provides detailed information on all the new indicators and categories, as well as an interactive resource for members, volunteers, businesses, media and the general community. It is the primary location for all things pertaining to quality of life in the Truckee Meadows and stores research data, membership forms, Adopt an Indicator applications and Accentuate the Positive Silver Star nomination forms.  Data metrics for the new Quality of Life Indicators will be posted to the Web site as researched throughout this year.

“We encourage our community to visit the TMT Web site and use the community forum feature to find others who are interested in working together to achieve real change, to protect and preserve quality of life, and to continue the momentum that the Quality of Life Task Force began in 2005,” Marsh said.

Truckee Meadows Tomorrow (TMT) is a community-based, non-profit organization whose vision is to enhance our community’s ability to continually improve the quality of life in the Truckee Meadows.
