(RENO, Nev.) – Truckee Meadows Tomorrow (TMT) was invited to join the Community Indicators Consortium (CIC). The consortium is a learning network and global community for people engaged or interested in the field of community indicators and their application. Community indicators provide measurable information for communities to gauge progress in quality of life topics.
Karen Hruby, TMT’s executive director, serves as the only Nevada representative on the CIC Board of Directors, which includes members from throughout the United States, Mexico and Canada.
“The majority of indicator projects rely on resources from local, state or country jurisdictions, or are part of university research centers,” Hruby said. “TMT is one of the few independent, volunteer-based nonprofits relying solely on contributions to sustain indicator tracking, community wellbeing reports and quality of life improvement programs.”
Such programs have received national recognition; including awards, invitations to present and best practice features.
“Being recognized by major organizations demonstrates TMT’s ability to engage community-wide actions toward positive change,” Hruby said. “It reminds us that simply being aware of the community’s indicators does not create results—citizen engagement, partnerships and collaborations create results.”
