Washoe Medical Center receives prestigious NOVA Award
Reno, NV – Washoe Medical Center (WMC) is proud to announce it has been named a recipient of the prestigious NOVA Award from the American Hospital Association (AHA). As indicated in the accompanying press release from the AHA, the NOVA award is presented to hospitals which have demonstrated exceptional commitment to their communities. WMC is being honored for its financial support, through grants totaling $750,000, of Truckee Meadows Tomorrow initiatives aimed at measurably improving outcomes for a wide variety of local quality of life indicators, and for its adoption of and subsequent contribution to the improvement of several community health and wellness indicators.
“Our organization has a deep commitment to our community that goes beyond the walls of our hospital buildings,” said Jim Miller, president and CEO of Washoe Health System, parent company of WMC. “It has been a privilege to be associated with the remarkable efforts of Truckee Meadows Tomorrow and gratifying to know that, together, we are making a difference for those who live in the Truckee Meadows. We are honored to receive this award.”
The AHA presents no more than five NOVA Awards to hospitals and health systems throughout the United States each year. Washoe Medical Center is the only hospital in Nevada to be recognized with the NOVA award during the award’s 11-year history. As one of this year’s winners, WMC joins well-known previous honorees such as Cedars Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles, Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, and Duke University Health System in Durham, North Carolina.
WMC representatives will attend a ceremony at the AHA’s annual Health Forum Leadership Summit in San Diego on July 27, 2004, to receive the award. Digital photos of the awards presentation are expected to be available from the AHA no later than July 28.
In addition to the AHA’s NOVA Award, Washoe Medical Center also recently was named one of the top 100 integrated healthcare networks (IHNs) in the nation; received a National Facility of Choice Award; and was designated one of the 100 “Most Wired” integrated healthcare delivery systems in the United States.
