The County Health Rankings (CHR) calculate the number of deaths from intentional and unintentional injuries per 100,000 population. Injuries are a leading cause of death and also an economic burden from associated healthcare costs and time off work. Top US performing injury death rate per 100,000 population was 57 in the 2019 rankings, while Nevada was 75 & Washoe County 83.

Notes:

  • CDC data aggregated for the County Health Rankings are 5-year averages, lagged 2-3 years behind reporting years
  • Deaths included are those with an underlying cause of injury (ICD-10 codes *U01-*U03, V01-Y36, Y85-Y87, Y89)
