Data Spotlight: The 2022–2025 Northern Nevada Public Health Community Health Dashboard

Updated: Jul 17

In partnership with Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH), Truckee Meadows Tomorrow reminds the community of this powerful tool: the 2022–2025 Community Health Dashboard. Designed to be more than just data, this platform invites the Reno–Sparks community to explore real-time insights into health and wellbeing—all with the goal of supporting healthier neighborhoods and stronger lives.

Why This Dashboard Matters

Every three years, NNPH conducts an intensive Community Health Assessment (CHA) that surfaces key health challenges and priorities for Washoe County. But static reports can’t keep pace with evolving conditions—our dashboard changes as new data flows in, giving residents and professionals an up-to-date snapshot of community needs. This is real-time public health in action—data that drives decisions, inspires community initiatives, and accelerates progress which informs the corresponding years’ Community Health Improvement Plan.

Key Insights

The dashboard provides a wide lens on wellness, covering mental health, access to care, environmental health, and more. A few standout findings include:

  • Mental health challenges among youth: The dashboard tracks rising rates of sadness, hopelessness, and suicide attempts in middle and high schoolers—a sobering but vital focus area.

  • Rising Medicaid & uninsured rates: Tracking insurance coverage over time helps inform efforts to expand affordable access to care.

  • Air quality and environmental containment: NNPH’s Air Quality Management Division integrates real-time air quality updates—crucial during wildfire season.

The above interactive chart shows a sample of what is available on the dashboard.

Community Benefits

This dashboard empowers us all. Whether you're a public health professional planning interventions, a policymaker setting priorities, or a resident passionate about local issues, this resource makes it easy to:

  • Monitor local trends and disparities.

  • Understand underlying social determinants like poverty, education, and housing.

  • Track disease prevention behaviors—screenings, immunizations, and lifestyle factors.

  • Promote equitable health opportunities, aligning NNPH’s mission of inclusion, adaptability, and trustworthiness.
